The magic of books
I have just finished Rosamund Handler's book, Tsamma Season. A few days before that, I finished reading Sarah Waters' The Little Stranger. I came to the end of the two books with a very satisfied sigh, and more than a little regret that my time with them had come to an end.
It is fair to say that I read a lot of books. Because I have to. Because I don't just read books - I study them. Because I want to grow as a writer, and what better way to do so than by studying the works of others? Suffice to say, over the years, the studying had taken the joy out of reading, which had become an onerous chore, just like my writing.
One of these days I will write a post on writing and publishing - the good, the bad and the glorious - but today, I want to celebrate books; their magic and the fact that for the first time in a very long time, I am reading books, not because I have to, but because I am right where I started when I decided to become a writer; because I loved reading.
