Okay, so I talked about White Man's Curse, the book I'm working on. Why?! I settled down on Saturday and got down to the nitty-gritty, ignoring the fact that:

• I ought to be writing a grant application to the Arts Council
• I really, really must get my ebay shop sorted
• I'm supposed to be starting my first screenplay in September, so why am I starting a new book?! Arrgghh. I drive myself nuts!

In any case, I had a whale of a time laying down the foundations of the main characters, but the star of the book, Martha, is something else. She's 12 years old and a teenage prostitute, something her mother is aware of, but chooses to ignore, because it's just easier that way. I was so nervous of starting this book because I really didn't think I had it in me to write fiction again, but once I got started, I was on a roll. I felt the adrenaline coursing through me and sure enough, I started thinking, maybe I can do this.
